Black Wings, chapter 1Sometimes in the Midwest we get some pretty serious rain. The water falls in drops the size of quarters and hits faster and harder than a runaway train. Since the plains are so flat, the rain pools on the roads and in the ditches, filling the entire countryside with a thick layer of dirty water. In a small town somewhere in the Midwest, all the lights were out on the main street. The only island of warmth and comfort against the dark and damp night was coming from the weather-worn windows of an old building. The wood was oak, intricately carved and worn with age. Light glowed from the windows, which were warped from time and weather. ThBlack Wings, chapter 1
